What a Creator Actually Keeps From €1,000 Collected
The advertised commission tells only a third of the story. Payment fees, currency conversion, VAT: the full breakdown.
One platform advertises a 10% commission, another 5%. The creator assumes they'll keep 90% or 95%. They're wrong either way, and the real gap isn't the one they imagine.
The four successive deductions
On every euro collected, in order: the buyer's country VAT, the payment provider's fees, the platform's commission, then possibly currency conversion and transfer fees.
Assumption: 125 members at €8 including tax, European debit card.
The creator who thought they'd keep €900 keeps €690. It's not a trap: the commission simply isn't calculated on the amount people imagine, and the VAT belongs to no one.
What a 5% commission changes
Forty-two euros a month between 10% and 5%. Over a year, that's €504 — several weeks of studio rent.
