Announcing your departure without burning bridges with the platform

Many terms of service forbid redirecting users toward a competitor. Here is what remains possible.

Most platforms forbid, in their terms, soliciting their users on behalf of a competing service. The rule is real, but its scope is narrower than most people think.

What remains possible

  • Writing to your own email list — it belongs to you.
  • Announcing it on your personal social media accounts.
  • Publishing your own domain name, which already existed beforehand.

What exposes you

A mass message sent through the platform's internal messaging system, a direct link inside a post, turning your home page into an exit banner.
