Tax-Included or Tax-Excluded Pricing: The Decision You Only Make Once
A fixed tax-included price protects the fan and lets your margin vary. A fixed tax-excluded price protects the creator and surprises the fan. You have to choose.
The choice looks technical. It's commercial, and in practice it's irreversible: changing your display method after the fact amounts to raising or lowering prices for everyone.
| Fixed tax-included price | Fixed tax-excluded price | |
|---|---|---|
| The fan pays | €12.00 everywhere | €12.00 to €14.64 depending on country |
| The creator receives | Varies by country | Constant |
| Clarity | Excellent | Poor |
| Comparison between creators | Immediate | Impossible |
| Consumer-facing use | European standard | B2B standard |
Our take
Fixed tax-included pricing. A fan isn't a professional buyer: they compare displayed amounts, not pre-tax bases. Advertising €12 and then charging €14.64 because they live in Rome is the surest way to lose a membership at the checkout step.
